Sliced Fruit:
Visualizing Quiet Acts of Love

Senior Thesis
(Interactive Physical Media)
How can we find value in the quiet and mundane expressions of love within a world overwhelmed by extravagant displays of affection?

“Sliced Fruit: Visualizing Quiet Acts of Love” is an exploration of the beauty in small, simple moments of love amidst the noise of extravagant displays. Inspired by my upbringing in a Taiwanese immigrant family, where love took less conventional forms than  "I love you," hugs, or kisses, this project explores the understated warmth found in the simple act of sharing sliced fruit, which is a way my parents have always expressed their love to me.

This series of interactive installations—including monochromatic flip books and tunnel books showing a simple act love—offers a glimpse into the distinctive perspectives of four people and provides intimate insights into their personal experiences with quiet love.

After looking at my own experiences, I looked outward and interviewed others and discovered that the most poignant aspect of these memories lies in the associated feelings. As humans, emotions become intertwined with our memories. While these individuals may not recall every detail of the experiences, they fondly cherish the emotions felt. The overarching intention of this thesis is to prompt individuals to recognize love beyond conventional norms and inspire them to share that love with others.
